Christmas Hampers

16th January 2021

In the lead up to Christmas, we joined forces with Holy Trinity Meole Brace in an initiative to provide families and individuals with some of the more special things we all like to receive at this time of the year. The vicar sought names of those who might appreciate the help, the thought or just a simple visit with a small gift and card close to, or on Christmas Day. There were nominations from people who knew a family who had suffered the loss of a parent; for a single Mum with 3 children; for a shift worker who had helped many elderly people to keep appointments; for many elderly people, isolated with no hope of going to family…to name but a few.

Members of the congregation and community donated huge amounts of luxury food items, gifts, toys and cash. A team put together hampers as well as smaller gifts for distribution to those nominated, and in our parish alone, nearly 60 parcels of various sizes and content were delivered by volunteers from the congregation. At the same time a cash donation was made to the Foodbank. Many heartfelt letters of thanks have been received by the vicar.

A member of the team wrote, ‘ we were bowled over by people's generosity both with gifts and money donations. It made it possible for us to personalise each bag and delivering them with a small team meant we were able to see people we haven't seen for a while.’

2020

Christmas 2020…

… was a time of planing wood, painting animals, crocheting stars, decorating stones…

… but, most of all, …

drawing closer to the story of the birth of Jesus and sharing it in our community

Advent 2020

As we approach Christmas our display outside Church will grow and grow starting with our Advent Star taking pride of place outside church. Our thanks to Annette for her wonderful work in crafting the star.

Remembrance 2020

Thanks to our wonderful team of knitters and crocheters and sewing-folk for our display of hand-crafted poppies for Remembrance, for all the time they’ve up to create the display. It has certainly turned heads!
